imaginarium's Community Generated Content Spaces
imaginarium has created a set of tools
that allow communities of
organisations, such as those in the culture, leisure, learning, voluntary, community
or related sectors, to enhance and manage their web presence under a strong coherent
brand. The Community Generated Content Space, cSpace, will:
provide
a web presence for each community organisation that they can easily create
and maintain themselves through an easy-to-use on-line web administration
system. Each community member has:
- a home page
- current events marketing
- latest news features
- learning resources
- resource classification
- dynamic Google map
- featured content
- auto-generated on-line
enquiry forms
deliver a collective web-presence for the whole community with a coherent
and strong brand identity: - creating a stronger more cohesive community
- achieving greater market and web presence through unified identity: allowing the community organisations to box above their weight as a group
- high search engine results across the whole community and its content
- achieving cost savings through economies of scale
- give a cohesive first-point of information for the community and its audience
- provide access to a private area for the community's members, where extra
features may be incorporated such as forum, chat rooms, documentation archives,
blogs etc.
devonmuseums.net is a prime example of the software being used to create
a central brand for all the museums in Devon. Each of the 100 museums has
their own set of pages, all of which can be searched using the comprehensive
search tools.

The technology
A Content Management System is used that is easy to adapt and configure and
yet has very low ongoing costs in terms of license and maintenance fees.
OpenSource, Joomla!, is used as the core software with Google Maps integrated
to produce interactive maps if required.
Each organisation can nominate members to maintain their own space on the site under a consistent group branding while super administration users can control the whole site themselves.
Comprehensive meta data and categorisation of content is encouraged facilitating accurate searching across the site's organisations by teachers, researchers and the general public.
The site is optimised for search engines so that members can achieve high rankings for their content.
The modular design of the software makes adding new features a straightforward task, while the active Open Source community of developers is constantly creating new features that can be incorporated.
